The Randy Price Memorial Fund ("RPM Fund") was established in 2004 as a 501c3 tax exempt organization by the Price Family to recognize Randy's involvement with the skeleton community and to provide a means of helping other aspiring skeleton athletes achieve their dreams. Randy Price took up skeleton sliding in 1999, 3 years after being diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of thyroid cancer. For the next 3 years, he trained and competed on tracks in Lake Placid, Calgary, Park City, and Lillehammer. Along the way he met Elaine Iba, who competed in the sport of skeleton from 2000 through 2003. Like Randy, Elaine took her skeleton sliding seriously. She was named to the US Women’s national skeleton team in 2001, and she took great pride in bring part of the team. She was a vocal cheerleader and supporter for her teammates at every event, whether she was competing or not. She never left a competition until it was over, even if her part had finished long before the end. She stayed and cheered everyone on. In recognition of the way they lived their lives, the Randy Price and Elaine Iba Memorial Awards are presented annually to skeleton athletes who best exemplify Randy's sportsmanship, commitment to excellence, regardless of circumstance, persistence, and improvement. Recipients receive a financial award to help with training expenses and are commemorated on a plaque that hangs in the Olympic Training Center. We are proud to say that our median donation is $50.
